Retired President and CEO of Diners Club North America, a division of Citigroup
Brenda J. Gaines was formerly president and chief executive officer of Diners Club America, a division of Citigroup, until her retirement in 2004. Her responsibilities included leading activities for the North American franchise of the $29 billion Diners Club International network.
From 1988 until her appointment as president in 1999, she held various positions within Diners Club North America, Citigroup and Citigroup’s predecessor corporations. She also served as deputy chief of staff for the mayor of the city of Chicago from 1985 to 1987 and as Chicago commissioner of housing from 1983 to 1985.
Ms. Gaines has more than 25 years of experience working in the corporate and government arenas and has substantial training in corporate governance having served as a speaker and panel member in various RiskMetrics certified courses, including those with a focus on audit committees.
Ms. Gaines formerly served on the board of directors for Tenet Healthcare Corporation and currently serves on the Smithsonian Institution National Board and a community nonprofit board.
Ms. Gaines has been a director of Southern Company Gas (formerly AGL Resources) since December 2011. She was a director of Nicor Inc. from 2006 to 2011.
