Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy, Southern Company Gas
Scott Carter is senior vice president of Corporate Strategy at Southern Company Gas. In this role, Carter is responsible for overseeing the company’s strategy for serving customers, incorporating net zero goals into a low-cost and reliable solution for customers, as well as working closely with the company’s regulatory teams to meet regulators’ expectations.
Carter’s responsibilities also include building strategies and solutions to expand the businesses’ abilities to deliver safe and reliable natural gas to the company’s 4.4 million customers.
Prior to joining Southern Company Gas, Carter served as senior vice president and chief operating officer for distribution operations for Spire, as well as president of Spire Missouri. In this role, Carter was responsible for ensuring financial and operational performance for 1.2 million customers in Missouri, and for leading several shared service functions serving all operating utilities.
With more than 20 years of industry experience, Carter has held many progressive leadership roles in the natural gas sector. During his time with AGL Resources, he led state and federal advocacy as chief regulatory officer, as well as other functions supporting the entire enterprise.
In his community, Carter has served in roles supporting the American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and United Way. Carter has also served on the boards of Concordance Academy in St. Louis, the Kansas City Area Development Council, and was chairman of the board of Missouri Partnership.
Carter holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Valdosta State University, and an MBA from the University of Georgia.
